Mgaguli Tutoring
Privacy Policy
This policy explains how student personal information is collected, used, protected, and retained on the Mgaguli Tutoring learning portal.
Effective date: 12 June 2026
1. Introduction
Mgaguli Tutoring respects the privacy of every student and is committed to protecting the personal information processed through this learning portal. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected, why it is collected, how it is protected, and the rights available to you under South African law.
This policy is written to comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA). By using the portal, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy.
2. Who We Are
Mgaguli Tutoring is a private tutoring service operated by Ntlakanipho Mgaguli in South Africa. For the purposes of POPIA, Mgaguli Tutoring is the responsible party for the personal information processed on this portal.
Questions, concerns, or requests relating to this policy should be directed to the tutor using the contact details provided in Section 12.
3. Information We Collect
The portal collects and stores only the information required to deliver the tutoring service. This consists of: your full name; your email address; your account login records; the courses in which you are enrolled; your lesson completion progress; the work you submit for tasks; and the feedback and marks issued by the tutor.
Your WhatsApp number is used for tutoring communication outside the portal and is not stored within the platform.
The portal does not collect or store identity numbers, residential addresses, or payment card details. All payment arrangements are made directly with the tutor outside the platform.
4. Purpose of Processing
Personal information is processed solely to operate the tutoring service. This includes: granting you access to the courses in which you are enrolled; receiving and reviewing your submitted work; providing you with feedback and marks; tracking your lesson progress; and administering your account, including password resets.
Your information is not sold, rented, or disclosed to third parties for marketing purposes. The portal does not display advertising and does not use your information for profiling.
5. Access to Your Information
Access to your personal information is strictly limited. Only you and the tutor can view your submissions, feedback, marks, and progress records. No student can view another student's information. These restrictions are enforced on the server for every request.
6. Third-Party Service Providers
The portal relies on a small number of reputable service providers to operate: Supabase provides the database and authentication infrastructure; Vercel hosts the application; Brevo delivers account-related email, such as password reset messages; and lesson videos are embedded from YouTube as unlisted videos.
These providers process data only as needed to provide their services. When you play an embedded video, YouTube's own privacy terms apply to the video player.
7. Cookies
The portal uses only the cookies that are strictly necessary to keep you signed in securely. No advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies are used.
8. Security
Reasonable technical and organisational measures are in place to protect your information. All connections to the portal are encrypted, every account is protected by authentication, access to course material is restricted by enrollment, and administrative functions are restricted to the tutor.
If a security incident is ever identified that affects your personal information, you will be informed as required by POPIA.
9. Data Retention
Your account and learning records are retained for the duration of your enrollment with Mgaguli Tutoring so that your course history, submissions, and feedback remain available to you.
When you are no longer a student, you may request the deletion of your account and associated records. Requests are actioned within a reasonable time, subject to any record-keeping obligations that may apply.
10. Your Rights Under POPIA
POPIA grants you the right to: request confirmation of whether the portal holds personal information about you; request access to that information; request the correction of inaccurate information; and request the deletion of your information.
To exercise any of these rights, contact the tutor directly. Requests are handled personally and without charge.
If you are under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian may exercise these rights on your behalf.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe your information has been processed unlawfully.
11. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to students on WhatsApp before they take effect, and the effective date below will be updated accordingly. Continued use of the portal after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Contact
All privacy enquiries and requests should be directed to Ntlakanipho Mgaguli through the WhatsApp number or email address provided to you when your tutoring began.
This policy should be read together with the Terms of Use.
